Warsaw, North Carolina is a pleasant place to live
Situated
in the southeastern part of the State, Warsaw enjoys a mild climate.
It is surrounded by undulating green fields and woods. Warsaw
is a quiet rural community, where neighbors live together in harmony,
people say hello when they meet you on the street, and people

Raleigh is only an hour and a half away by car. All of the offerings
of the State Capital are readily available. Wilmington North Carolina
is only an hour's drive. There, one can fish, sail or just lounge

Warsaw
offers recreation and entertainment
within the community.
Public and private facilities offer
tennis, golf and swimming. Little league
and softball teams are sponsored during
the summer. The surrounding woods and
lakes abound with game. The hunter or
fisherman is in paradise.

The
town was also a religious center.
The Baptist Church built a college in
Warsaw in 1856 which had many boarders
from surrounding counties. The Baptist
Church was erected in 1856 and for many
years was the only church in town. The
Presbyterian Church was built in 1884
and later the Methodist Church was erected.
Local
industry
enjoys an excellent environment. Productive
workers, surplus utility capacity and
good transportation are bolstered by strong
community support. A modern airport with
a 4900' runway and navigation aids offers
maintenance, fuel service and hangar space
for business aircraft.
Warsaw is governed by a town board consisting
of a Mayor and five commissioners. Government
is, at once, conservative and progressive. |
Operating
out of modern offices,
local government is efficient and financially
sound. It has had the foresight to develop
modern water and sewer systems with surplus
capacity. Twenty-four hour police and
fire protection is maintained and well
staffed recreation department tends the
city's parks and playgrounds and has a
broad offering of programs. Government
actively solicits and supports industrial
development.
The financial needs of the community are
met by Branch Banking & Trust Company,
Southern Bank & Trust Company.
Several
physicians and dentists tend the health
needs of Warsaw.
Duplin General Hospital
in Kenansville, 8 miles away, and Sampson
Memorial Hospital, 12 miles away in Clinton
provide Warsaw with hospital service.
Emergency services are offered by the
Warsaw Rescue Squad.

Originally
known as Mooresville
and later changed to Duplin Depot, the
community was settled about 1825. In 1838
Thaddeus D. Love, of Wilmington, conductor
on the first train that ran through the
then crossroads community, moved here.
Being familiar with Jane Porter's popular
novel "Thaddeus of Warsaw,"
Mr. Loves friends began calling him Thaddeus
of Warsaw. The name had such appeal to
the few residents that in 1855 the community
was incorporated and the name was changed
to Warsaw. At that time there were about
twenty residences, three general merchandise
stores ad a combination store-post office
in town. |
Warsaw
located in the west central section of
Duplin County, is intersected
by highways NC 24 and 50 and US 117; and
is served by the seaboard Coast Line Railroad.
Interstate 40 has two exits at Warsaw
and will provide easy access to Wilmington,
Raleigh, and I-95. It is approximately
52 miles north of Wilmington, 35 miles
south of Goldsboro, and 75 miles southeast
of Raleigh.

Warsaw
schools offer good facilities,
well-qualified faculties and curriculums
of high standard. James Sprunt Technical
College, a technical training center located
in Kenansville offers technical training
as well as vocational and academic courses.
The Warsaw/ Kornegay Library, provides
a full range of reading material. Institutions
of higher learning are Mt. Olive College(16miles);
University of North Carolina at Wilmington
(52 miles); East Carolina University at
Greenville (60 miles); and Methodist College
at Fayetteville (50 miles) .Duke Medical
Center, UNC Chapel Hill Hospital, Pitt
Memorial are all withing comnmuting distance.
